Today, like yesterday, we went into the library at 8:30 a.m. and started to talk about yesterday’s expert panel. We summed up the notes we remembered and most of them were really interesting. After that, we asked and answered each other’s questions.

Then we created a survey about immigration. We all looked forward to asking Maynard Jackson students and teachers all these questions. We were all sent out to the different classrooms in our groups. We were excited to see what answers the students and teachers would pick! We realized, when we looked at the results, that most of them answered the same way we would!

We were all very surprised when we were suddenly told that the yellow school bus is already waiting for us to take us to the CNN center. After we arrived there we took a great photo of us all in front of CNN. We couldn’t wait to enter, and when we went in we got a quick introduction with some really interesting facts. For example, I never knew before that CNN has the longest freestanding escalator in the world!

Then we all moved on to eat some, typically American, lunch. Most of us ate chicken at the Chick-fil-A, and when we had finished we walked to the Civil Rights Museum.

The National Center for Civil and Human Rights (NCCHR) is very unique because there are not just texts and pictures, but there were also areas where you could listen to different people talking in movies and through phones. We had a guide who was happy to answer our questions, and there was even a simulator were we all could experience how the colored people were treated during segregation, in the sit-ins.

It was very emotional and some of us even cried! We learned a lot about many different people, but specifically Martin Luther King Jr. We even saw a video of his funeral  where so many people remembered him. After we checked the rooms out ourselves we left the Museum and went to the nearby World of Coca Cola!

At first we got a Coke and then we were told basic facts before we were free to explore the “World of Coca Cola”. We all were very excited and some went at first to the 4-D cinema, some to taste the different kinds of soda and some to the secret formular of Coca Cola, where we could try to mix the perfect Coke. Of course we also learned a lot, for example that the inventor of Coca Cola was Pemberton and that Coca Cola is the #1 of nonalcoholic, sparkling beverages.

In the evening around 7:00pm the school concert began in the theater. I got a chance to see the choir sing, and I really liked it even though it was just half an hour.
Today was a very interesting and funny day! I loved the things that we got to see and explore. Even if it was emotional or hard to look at there were many very interesting facts to learn. I would love to go into the heart of the City again and have even more time to look around other places too.
